Rea joined the Hatters on loan from Championship club Brighton & Hove Albion in March 2016, making ten appearances, and signed permanently in June 2016.

The Sussex-born player had made his debut for Albion in August 2015 in the Capital One Cup against Southend, who he went on to join on loan for a three-month spell before his temporary stint at Kenilworth Road.

Opted to rejoin the Hatters in the close season to be reunited with Nathan Jones, who he worked under at Brighton, ahead of interest from the Shrimpers.

Rea made his 100th appearance for the club in a 2-2 draw at Coventry in February 2018, having been one of the top appearance makers in the last two seasons.

The 26-year-old penned a new contract with the Hatters in the summer of 2018.

Rea broke into the team early on in the 2018/19 campaign and was a stalwart as the shield in front of the defence before a serious knee injury ended his season in December.

Spent a month on loan with Woking to aid his injury recovery, before making his comeback into the first team during the away defeat against Stoke City.

Made an additional 14 appearances for the remainder of the season, playing an integral role in helping the club maintain their status in the Championship.

Rea's contribution to the team continued the following season after he signed a new contract before making 40 appearances in the league. The midfielder scored three times, the first of which came against Nottingham Forest in October.

Glen Rea made 13 appearances for the Hatters before joining Wigan Athletic on loan, where his season was ended through injury.

Nine of those 13 matches were starts for the number six but after sporadic appearances he moved to the DW Stadium in search of regular game-time.

But Rea would suffer a serious knee injury during a league match against AFC Wimbledon which ended his campaign prematurely.
