Match Preview | Luton Town vs Brighton & Hove Albion

30 January 2024

Luton Town return to Premier League action on Tuesday night when we host Brighton & Hove Albion at Kenilworth Road.

Rob Edwards’ side reached the fifth round of the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday after a last-minute winner from Cauley Woodrow sealed the win at Everton.

Roberto De Zerbi’s Seagulls also advanced to the fifth round when João Pedro’s hat-trick contributed to their victory at Sheffield United.

The opposition

João Pedro celebrating his third goal against Sheffield United last Saturday.

Brighton currently sit in seventh place in the Premier League after an impressive Europa League group stage campaign which saw the Seagulls top their group.

After scoring in a club record 32 consecutive league games between March and December last year, Brighton have now failed to score in three of their last five.

No player has created more chances in the Premier League this season than Brighton’s Pascal Groß.

Brighton have won just one of their last eight away league matches and have conceded 17 goals across these eight games.

Words from Rob

Rob Edwards smiling in the dugout before our game at Everton.

“Everything about Brighton is impressive. The way they move the ball forward and how they’ve progressed at this level, from Chris Hughton to Graham Potter through to De Zerbi.

“They are well-coached and have brilliant players, the club as a whole from the outside looks a brilliant place. It’ll be a very difficult game for us, but it will be good to see how far we’ve come from the first game.

“Now we’re more aggressive, we press higher and have more of the ball. We’ve retained our threat from set pieces and on the counter-attack, so we’re a completely different unit from that first game. Plus, any game at Kenilworth Road is different and unique.”

Last time we met

Carlton Morris scoring our first ever Premier League goal against Brighton.

Our first ever Premier League fixture ended in defeat as Brighton took all three points at the Amex Stadium on the opening day back in August.

Carlton Morris scored our first ever top-flight goal since 1992 as Brighton ran away with it, netting four goals through Solly March, Pedro, Simon Adingra and Evan Ferguson.

Last time out

Cauley Woodrow celebrating his winner at Everton with his teammates.

Luton pipped Everton to an Emirates FA Cup fifth round spot in the dying seconds at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

Reece Burke gave the Hatters the lead in the first half before Jack Harrison equalised after the break; Woodrow netted in the 96th minute to set up a fifth round tie with Manchester City next month.
