Elijah Adebayo vowed to keep “being the player that I know I’m capable of being” after scoring for the fifth game in a row to seal the three points against Cardiff City last night.
The striker took his tally to eight for the season by netting the winner which lifted the Hatters to fourth in the Sky Bet Championship table.
Since netting against West Brom here on January 14th, he has scored in every game Town have played and he said: “Since the new management team has come in, it’s been a fresh start for all of us and for me.
“I know at the beginning of the season it wasn’t quite going my way, but players have to just dig in, keep going and working hard in training, and train how you’re going to play on matchday.
“Especially since the turn of the year, and I hope everyone can see, I definitely feel like I am – I wouldn’t say back – but I’m just being the player that I know I’m capable of being.”
Adebayo climbed highest to meet Alfie Doughty’s 88th-minute cross, just quarter-of-an-hour after seeing a penalty saved by Cardiff keeper Ryan Allsop.
“It's something that I’ve had a discussion with myself about, about that reaction and not letting it be five, ten, 15 minutes of the game, just trying to not – I wouldn’t say sulk – but not worry about what’s happened,” said the 24-year-old.
“It’s just about getting on with it, these things happen. As you can see the reaction from me today was better, and from the team.
“Everyone was filling me with confidence to carry on going, and I’m not going to stop taking them. I’m going to carry on taking them because that’s the position I put myself in.”
Adebayo also praised his team-mates, and especially fellow forward Carlton Morris and Cauley Woodrow, for the work-rate that sets the tone for how the Hatters play.
“Defending starts from the front, so we want to try and make teams feel as uncomfortable as possible, and then if they break that press, we know we’ve got midfielders and defenders who are going to be backing us up,” he said.
“That’s what Luton teams are built on. We are built on hard working from the front to the back, and just making teams as uncomfortable as possible.”
