Hatters striker James Collins said the whole club needs to ‘stick together’ after Saturday's narrow 2-1 loss against Birmingham City.
The Republic of Ireland international equalised just after the hour mark but seven minutes later, the Blues re-took the lead with Gary Gardner scoring what proved to be the winning goal.
Collins said: “It’s never nice to lose games. The lads and everyone involved are really disappointed because we got ourselves back in the game after a poor first-half performance and then we’ve been hit on the break and conceded again, and we couldn’t equalise.”
The striker was quick though to say the players need to regroup, and find the reason as to why confidence isn't high in the group.
“I think that obviously this club has been used to winning a lot over the last couple of years and we’ve found ourselves in a situation now where it is going to be tough.
“We are playing against good opposition but we need to regroup and see why the confidence is low. We need to change that because with performances like that in the first half, we’re not going to get ourselves out of it.”
Collins spoke of his disappointed that his converted penalty couldn’t spur the team on to grab another goal.
“At the minute I’m designated penalty taker and I’m always confident to put it away. I was delighted to get us back on level terms but obviously when you lose 2-1, it doesn’t really count for much.”
Town’s second shot on target came in the dying embers of the game as Collins set-up Sonny Bradley, but the defender saw his effort saved by Lee Camp.
“Sonny’s a centre-half, he found himself in the box and I don’t think he could have done anymore,” the striker continued. “He got it on target and the keeper has saved it but they’re the sort of things that are going against us at the minute. We can’t really rely on last minute chances to try and save games, we need to make sure we do better during the game.”
The former Crawley Town forward concluded by issuing a message to fans, speaking of how hard the squad are working to change their fortunes on a Saturday for supporters.
“Obviously it’s difficult for them, as it is for us. We don’t go out there and want to perform badly, it’s just we’ve found ourselves in a situation at the minute and we’re doing everything we can as a club, players and staff, to try and change that.
“We train hard and we care. It’s not as if we don’t care, we really do want to stay in this league this season and that is the aim now. There’s no point pointing fingers, we need to stick together as staff and as players and as a club, we need to try and overcome it.”
