MATCH PREVIEW: LUTON TOWN V LINCOLN CITY

31 December 2017

The Hatters head into the New Year hoping to make amends for their 4-0 defeat at Port Vale, a result though that didn't affect Nathan Jones' side's lead at the top of Sky Bet League Two.

After a run of just one defeat in 23 games, the Town were undone at Vale Park on Saturday afternoon, as the Valiants cruised to a win with Tom Pope getting on the score-sheet twice.

The Hatters face another in form side tomorrow in Lincoln City, who moved into the automatic promotion spots as they finished an impressive 2017 with a 2-1 win over Forest Green Rovers.

However, the Imps travel to the most difficult ground for away teams to get points from this campaign, as the Hatters have only suffered two league defeats in 12 games at Kenilworth Road – putting them top of the home league form table in League Two.

Jones' defence will be taking on one of the more prolific strikers in the division in recent weeks, as Matt Green heads to Kenilworth Road having scored five times in his last seven outings.

THE GAFFER SAYS:

On bouncing back against Lincoln: "Of course we have to do that. We have to show what a good side we are. You don't get to where we are without being a good side.

"It's just really disappointing to go to Port Vale in the form we are in, to finish the year off well – we have had wonderful form, we have had a great month. We came up against a Port Vale side who are in real good form. We weren't as fluent as we normally are because the pitch wasn't conducive for that, so we picked a team that was going to get it into our front men, but we were nowhere near."

On focusing on what the Hatters can do and going on another run: "All we can do is concentrate on us. We are not concerned about Notts County, what we are concerned with is us. If we win games then we get where we want to be. The last game we lost was 3-0 at home to Coventry, having a man sent off, and then we didn't lose in three months. So if we have that reaction, then I will be happy."

WHO?

Champions of the National League last season, Danny Cowley's tough-to-beat Imps are delivering on their expectation to do well this season given how well they got on in 2016/17, as they currently sit third in Sky Bet League Two.

A six-year spell in the top level of Non-League was brought to an end in Cowley's first season in charge, as he guided them to automatic promotion, picking up 99 points as they strolled back into the EFL. On an unbeaten run of six – in which five were wins – they will certainly be one of the toughest tests we will face at Kenilworth Road this season.

WHEN AND WHERE?

Kick-off is at 3pm on Monday 1st January 2018 at Kenilworth Road.
