Hatters defender Jack named in team of the tournament

Town defender Jack Senior has been rewarded for his tremendous performances in the Checkatrade Trophy this season by being named in the Team of the Tournament revealed in the build-up to Sunday's final.

Having made his professional debut in the Trophy against West Bromwich Albion last October, the 20-year-old used it as a springboard to gain more first team opportunities, since racking up 16 further appearances for the Hatters.

The August signing from Huddersfield Town said: “It’s an honour to be included. To be honest I was quite surprised at first when I saw it pop up on my Twitter!

“It’s something I am really chuffed with and it makes me more motivated to get more recognition. It really pushes me on to try and improve myself as a footballer.

“It’s definitely been a great competition for me to play men’s football for the first time. I made my debut in it and it was the first time I played at home in front of the fans, which was an unbelievable experience.

“It also made me realise what level I need to be at to be able to cope and it definitely stood me in good stead leading up to when I got my chance in the league.”

Town boss Nathan Jones has been impressed with his young defender’s performances and was pleased to see him named in the best XI in the competition.

The gaffer said: “We are obviously very proud of him to be included. We treated the Checkatrade Trophy with the respect it deserves. We were able to bed in a lot of young players who have gone onto be real first team players who got their initial exposure through the competition.

“We treated the competition very seriously and it benefited us as a squad, none more so than people like Jack, who came into the team through that and did fantastically well.”

Well done, Jack!
