Nathan Jones was over the moon with his side's performance

Hatters boss Nathan Jones couldn’t hide his delight after his young Town side defeated West Bromwich Albion in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Two goals in two minutes, the first from Alex Gilliead and the second from Jake Gray, were enough to give the Hatters a comfortable win.

Jones was ecstatic, as his side made it two wins in two games in Southern Group H following last month’s win at Gillingham.

Jones said: “It doesn’t get better than that. In terms of performance and intensity and the way we went about our work, we are absolutely awesome.

“That’s as good a performance I have seen from a group of young players, coming up against a Premier League under-23 side, with four top class professionals and from start to finish, we were a class above.

“The way we worked, the way we pressed, 2-0 flatters West Bromwich Albion.”
