Swindon penalty inspired Danny's Panenka chip
Danny Hylton says a Friday night in front of the TV with room-mate Johnny Mullins told him to chip his first penalty Panenka-style down the centre of the Exeter goal in yesterday’s 3-1 Emirates FA Cup first round win.
Hylton netted two spot-kicks to take his tally for the season to ten at St James Park, and he took inspiration from Michael Doughty’s penalty for Swindon in their 1-1 draw at National League high-flyers Eastleigh the previous night.
The former Oxford man said: “It was a little bit risky, but it went in, didn’t it?
“I made up my mind last night when I was watching the Swindon game, when they got a penalty. I realised that Cameron wasn’t starting today so I would be taking the penalties.
“I told Johnny Mullins ‘I’m chipping it down the middle’. He said if I missed it, he wouldn’t be too happy. But once I had made up my mind I didn’t change it, I just tried to be confident with it.”
