Trip has helped loan keeper get to know the lads
Christian Walton has told lutontown.co.uk how important it was for him to sign for the Hatters before the recent trip to Hungary – so he could get to know the players who are going to be his team-mates for the season.
The 20-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion keeper put pen to paper at the end of June with his loan starting on July 1st, he had just one day’s training with the squad at Ely Way before boarding the flight to Budapest two days later.
Walton said: “It was a great week for all the team. It was good to get together for that period and good to get to know the lads from a personal point of view.
“That was the main thing for me, coming to Luton. I knew they were going on a pre-season tour and being on that was a big thing to help me settle in with the group.
“All the lads have been brilliant, there’s been good banter around the changing room and it’s a good place to be, so I’m really looking forward to the coming weeks.”
The England Under-21 squad member got his first taste of match action at the Globall Football Park in Telski when he played the opening half of the 0-0 draw with Paksi FC.
“It was good to get 45 minutes under my belt,” said Walton, who Hatters fans will see in the flesh for the first time tomorrow at Bedford Town, then again on Tuesday when the Town head to National League side Boreham Wood.
“It was a good test for us against a team that were probably a few weeks ahead of us in their pre-season schedule, so they were going into it having played games already
“Now we go again on Saturday and into Tuesday. We’ve got some good games coming up and it’s going to be a good test for the lads to put us in good stead for the first game.”
