Solyd prize winner tells his story

Lucky SoLYD supporter, Ben Gray, was the winner of the SoLYD prize draw in December giving him a once in a lifetime experience of spending a match day with Hatters director David Wilkinson.

Here’s what he thought of his amazing prize:

My Dad and I had a really fantastic day being directors for the day for the home game against Northampton. Arriving at Kenilworth Road around 1.30, we were shown to the directors’ box where David Wilkinson welcomed us. David was really friendly and gave us a personal tour of the stadium. We went out of the players’ tunnel onto the hallowed turf, were introduced to Gary Sweet, Dave Richardson (the fitness coach) and also had a good chat with Jake Howells.

We were then shown the coaches’ room where we met John Still and the coaching staff. They were also really friendly and they shared the team news with us and that they were starting with a 4-4-2 formation. After wishing them all the best we headed back to the directors’ box for a couple of beers and had lunch with David and Nick Owen. They were great company and seemed just like us - passionate, genuine Luton fans. We were also introduced to Paul Ballantyne and Bob Curson before we went out to watch the game.

I found myself sitting next to the BBC’s John Motson and Bob. I had mentioned that my all-time favourite player was Ricky Hill and so was overjoyed when David mentioned that he was in the directors’ box watching the game and he took me over to shake the great man’s hand. The result ultimately didn’t go our way and at the end of the game the directors were in deep conversation. It was no surprise when John Still parted company with the Hatters a few days later.

We had a fantastic day and would like to thank David and all the directors for their hospitality. It is so good to know that the football club that we all love is in safe hands with genuine Hatters fans. Hopefully they can appoint the right manager to take us forward and lead us up the leagues.

Many thanks again for the amazing prize.
