Get behind the supporter's charity of the year tomorrow

Tomorrow's match against Carlisle Utd is the dedicated match in support of Autism Bedfordshire - the Luton Town supporter's charity of the year.

As part of the day's proceedings, we will be welcoming a group of fundraisers from the charity who will be collecting on behalf of the charity. We are also excited to be welcoming a group of people with autism to Kenilworth Road to watch the match from an executive box. Sometimes, the excitement of a football match can be a little overwhelming for people with autism, so the box will offer a great environment for the group to enjoy the game.

Autism Bedfordshire carry out vital work in the community supporting people with autism and their families - here's Zac's story.

The photo above is of a little boy called Zac, aged 5. Zac is a big Luton Town Supporter, but he has never been to a Luton Town Football Club match before due to his autism. Tomorrow he will be attending his first game at Kenilworth Road with a group of autistic people who will watch the game from an executive box and he is very excited!

Autism is a developmental disability that profoundly affects the way a person thinks, communicates and relates to the world around them. Many people with autism miss out on the social, educational and life experiences that other people take for granted.

Zac attends an Autism Bedfordshire’s Loads of Autistic Fun group or Loaf for short.

Loaf is a Saturday morning social activity group for children with autism and their parents/carers. Children can play supervised with specialist one-to-one support whilst parents/carers can have a break, a cup of tea and share experiences with other parents. Loaf is a vital lifeline for the families we support, it is somewhere to go which is a safe and inclusive environment for the children and it’s so important that no parent with autism feels alone.

Autism Bedfordshire aims to enrich the lives of people with autism and their families in the local community. We are very grateful to have the support of the Luton Town Supporters this year in helping us to continue to run our Loads of Autistic Fun Groups in the County.

We'd encourage all supporters to get behind their charity of the year tomorrow. Come on you Hatters!
