Vassell and Banton feature in Hatters XI at Top Field

The Hatters head to Hitchin Town tomorrow night for the annual pre-season friendly at Top Field – and several of the club’s rising stars who have figured in Nathan Jones’ first-team build-up to 2016-17 are included for the ‘Pay What You Like’ match.

Andy Awford takes charge of a Luton Town XI featuring summer signing from Truro City, Isaac Vassell (pictured), 20-year-old Zane Banton, goalkeeper Craig King and first-year professionals Frankie Musonda, James Justin, Akin Famewo and Tyreeq Bakinson.

Others set to take on Mark Burke’s Canaries, who reached the play-offs in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division last season, include youth teamers Cameron McJannett and Freddie Hinds, who have also been given experience in senior friendlies this summer.

Awford told “We are taking a good young side over to Hitchin with a sprinkling of first-team squad players, many who have done really well in the friendlies so far.

“We enjoyed going over to Top Field last season. A lot of Luton fans live locally and will be keen to see the future is bright is for the club after the youth team did so well last season. We are looking forward to it.”

Kick-off at Top Field is 7.45pm and spectators are able to pay what they want on the gate.
