STILL ON DAGENHAM

31 October 2015

Boss looks ahead to Daggers return

The Town aim to get back to winning ways on Sunday at John Still’s former club Dagenham – but win, lose or draw it won’t be an experience the boss is relishing.

Still spent almost 10 years at Victoria Road, helping the Daggers win promotion from the Conference to League 1 during his decade-long tenure.

The Hatters haven’t won their last four matches in League 2 but Still takes his side to his old stomping ground aiming to inflict more misery on his former employers – Dagenham are bottom of the table, have yet to win at home and are without a victory in their last nine league games.

“I want to go there, play there and go home. I don’t even want to socialise, I know it sounds silly but I don’t,” Still said at his Friday press conference. “The manager’s a close friend of mine, he worked with me there, and when the game’s over I’ll say a few hellos and then I want to go home.

“Dagenham have found it difficult so far but this is a game of small margins. They were 3-1 up against Mansfield, missed a sitter to make it 4-1, Mansfield made it 3-2 on the stroke of half-time and went on to win 4-3.

“But Sunday is not a game that I want. If I have to play them I would like it to be in the situation where it’s the last game of the season when everyone’s destiny is sorted out.

“I manage this club, the only thing I want to do on Sunday is win. That’s my job. But like lots of people your job can be different to your passion.”

Although the Town haven’t won in their last four games, Still believes if his side can cut out the errors, there will be an improvement.

“My teams always get stronger. I think we’ve got stronger but I don’t think we’re playing as well as we can do,” admitted the boss. “We should be capitalising on situations, we are making more mistakes than I believe we should be making.”
