Wilkinson and McGeehan eyeing three more points

Tuesday goalscorers Luke Wilkinson and Cameron McGeehan are targeting another Hatters victory at Hartlepool on Saturday.

The pair helped the Town to a third straight win with goals in the midweek win at Morecambe which made it three victories on the spin in League 2.

“Hartlepool’s a massive game for us. We’ll be going there expecting to win,” said centre-half Wilkinson, who opened the scoring on Tuesday night with this third goal of the season. “We’ve got to keep going and keep racking up the points to get as far up the league as we can.

“We’ve started the season a bit slowly. We did last year, though, and then we went on an 11-match unbeaten run.

“But I know that this team is capable of doing even better than that.”

Meanwhile McGeehan, who notched his fourth goal of the season on Tuesday, is hoping the Town can maintain their momentum in their bid for a successful campaign.

“The last few home games have been a bit edgy, a bit tight but we’ve started getting the wins,” said the 20-year-old midfielder.

“We’ve started slowly but we can’t use that as an excuse because we’ve been in winning positions and let them slip by making sloppy mistakes.

“But we’ve got some momentum now. As a group we’re expecting ourselves to win this league. We’ve got the players to do that I think that showed against Morecambe. We punished them.

“It’s good to see that we’re now getting the performances to go with the results.”
