Benson expected back by boss for Crawley cup tie

Town boss John Still has he will pick a strong side for Saturday's FA Cup first round tie at Crawley.

The Hatters go into the game off the back of last weekend's 2-0 win over Dagenham and Still is expecting to name  Paul Benson in the squad after the striker played another 90 minutes for the development squad in the week. The experienced frontman hasn't featured for the Town since the League Cup tie against Stoke back in September with a neck injury.

Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu is likely to return next week as he continued his recovery from a swollen ankle sustained in the defeat to Plymouth, but Ryan Hall is available for selection having served a one-match suspension.

Meanwhile striker Craig Mackail-Smith will be assessed on Friday by the Town medical staff. The summer signing has been hindered by a niggling nerve problem in his hamstring but did come on in the second half of last weekend's win at his former club.

Mark O'Brien has trained today [Thursday] after being unavailable with an infected insect bite while fellow defender Stephen O'Donnell has now had his hernia operation. Still is hopeful that the Hatters can extend the loan of Sean Long from Reading. Watch this space on that one.
