Midfielder eyeing promotion after penning extended contract

Hatters midfielder Nathan Doyle signed a contract to keep him at Kenilworth Road until June 2018 earlier this week.

The 28-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal after settling in the area, making 12 appearances for the Town so far this season.

Having originally signed from Bradford in October 2014, Doyle is keen to push himself and the club forward ahead of the rest of the League 2 campaign after making his 250th career appearance during his time with the Hatters.

Speaking to Hatters Player, Doyle said: “The gaffer and the staff made me feel so welcome here, and seeing how we did to get out of the Conference and to finish as high as we did last year, I can only see us going up and up.

“We’ve got a really good feeling in the dressing room, and once we get a few results together, we can get the form together and push on.

“We have an international in Paddy McCourt, and we’ve also been able to bring in the likes of Cameron McGeehan and Craig Mackail-Smith, while Olly Lee and Jack Marriott have also been excellent for us.”

Doyle has spent a number of years in the north playing for the likes of Preston, Bradford and Barnsley, but feels the nature of the players around him have made the transition  south of the country easy for him.

Last season’s fans’ Player of the Year has now experienced the Football League with seven clubs, including the Hatters, and is he is hoping to be able to impart that knowledge to other members of the squad.

“It can be difficult, and it doesn’t always work out, but when you’ve got all the players welcoming you in, it really is a no-brainer to want to play here.

“It’s nice when the younger lads ask for advice that you can give it when you’ve had the experiences before.

“It would be great having come from the Conference to push to League 1, and then look to keep going even further. The aim this year is to get that promotion, for the fans and the players alike.”

Doyle also hailed the performances of team-mate Jonathan Smith, praising his fellow midfielder's work-rate and character. Watch the snippet below courtesy of our official YouTube channel.
