Hatters youngsters held by Dons

The Town Under-18s were denied a victory by a late equaliser by MK Dons in their first fixture in the merit league on Saturday.

The Hatters had led thanks to James Justin’s fine low finish midway through the first half.

Paul Driver’s side, who finished two places below the Dons in the initial South East division, were denied by a string of fine saves from the MK keeper with one stop from a point-blank Kyran McGhan-George header particularly impressive.

But with two minutes left the home side grabbed a leveller from a set-piece to earn a share of the spoils to leave Driver with mixed feelings on the draw.

The Town coach said: “We played MK last month and they were by far the better team on that occasion but this time I thought we were. We had a lot more chances and their goalkeeper pulled off some unbelievable saves.

“It was very disappointing to concede from a set-piece so late in the game.

“I probably would have taken a point at the start of the game so I’m pleased with a point – but I’m gutted we couldn’t hang onto what would have been an excellent victory.”

Town: King, Trotman, Perry, Musonda, McGhan-George, Justin, Maguraushe (sub Fanowa 75), Atkinson, Allman, Galliford (sub Cotter 80), Amadi (sub Craig 68). Subs not used: Hinds, Gooch.
