WILKINSON SHORTLISTED FOR PLAYER OF THE MONTH

7 October 2014

Centre-half up for gong

Town defender Luke Wilkinson is one of four players shortlisted for the Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Month award.

The centre-half, who celebrated his 24th birthday by scoring the opening goal in the 2-0 in over Oxford last week, helped the Hatters to an unbeaten four-match run in September that also saw also the defence keep four successive clean sheets.

Wilkinson vies for the award with the following:

Paul Hayes (Wycombe Wanderers)
A milestone month for the veteran who scored three of the Chairboys’ five goals. Led the line superbly while playing with different partners. All of his goals were crucial, including the winner against Cambridge United, his 100th league goal.

Jack Payne (Southend United)
The catalyst for Southend’s great month. Broke into the side against Oxford United and has not looked back, linking play, and driving forward. The 3-2 win at York City showcased his talents with two assists and a sweeping finish.

Marc Richards (Northampton Town)
Six goals in four appearances kept Northampton in the Play-Off positions. Allied a strong work-rate to his full array of finishing. Clinical on the ground and powerful in the air. Scored twice against both Dagenham & Redbridge and Hartlepool United.

The winner will be announced on Friday.

The judging panel comprises Sky Sports’ Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Head of Communications John Nagle; League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.
