Benson ends goal drought, Miller off the mark, Town keep up Newport dominance...

28 – The Town kept up their remarkable home record against Newport County on home soil (in all their previous guises) with victory on Saturday. County have never won in Bedfordshire against the Hatters, with the Town’s 4-2 win the 20th victory in 28 home matches against County. Eight of those have finished in draws. Newport make the journey to Kenilworth Road again on 20th December for a fixture in League 2.

1 – Congratulations to striker Ricky Miller who scored his first goal in Luton colours when climbing off the substitutes’ bench to restore the Town’s lead against Newport. The former Boston forward enjoyed a fine spell out on loan with Dover this season, scoring five goals in 10 games.

5 – Miller’s strike was the fifth goal scored by a substitute by the Town this season. Furthermore it was the fourth goal in the last eight matches netted by a sub – all of which have led to victories (Alex Wall at Stevenage, Jim Stevenson at Hartlepool and Luke Guttridge against Northampton).

15 – Guttridge’s fantastic effort to give the Hatters the lead was his 15th goal for the club and his second this season. Interestingly 13 of those 15 goals have come at Kenilworth Road. He scored twice away from home last season – both in 5-0 victories, at Alfreton and Nuneaton.

17 – Striker Paul Benson netted his 19th goal for the Town against Newport at the weekend, which ended a run of 17 matches without scoring. The former Dagenham & Redbridge man’s last goal for the Hatters was the winner in the 2-1 victory at Grimsby on 25th March.

25 – The Town are ball number 25 in the second round draw for the FA Cup, which takes place on Monday night live on BBC 2. The Hatters’ last opponents in the second round, back in 2012, were Dorchester, who were beaten 2-1 at Kenilworth Road thanks to goals from Andre Gray and Alex Lawless.
