Same youthful squad likely for replay

It’ll be a case of as you were for the Town when they entertain Staines in Tuesday night’s FA Trophy replay.

Hatters boss John Still made 11 changes to the side that beat Southport in the Skrill Premier for Saturday’s tie with the Swans that ended goalless.

And first team coach Hakan Hayrettin confirmed similar side will be on duty under the light at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday.

“It’ll be more or less the same squad,” said a happy Hayrettin after the 0-0 draw at Wheatsheaf Park.

On the result itself, which saw loan signings Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu and Joe Davis make their debuts, Hayrettin said: “It was a good performance from our boys considering they were put together at the last minute.

“Pelly and Joe have never played together before and did fantastically well as they were two strangers and a clean sheet away from home is always good,” he said.

“We put out a team we thought was capable of winning. We believe in the youth philosophy, we want to give everyone a chance, so it was very, very pleasing for us.

“To come to Staines, who are doing fantastically well in their league, a couple more wins and they’re in the play-offs, so we’re happy.”

It may have ended in stalemate but the Town were unlucky not to progress to the second round having been denied by an inspired performance from home stopper Jack Turner.

“If if wasn’t for the goalkeeper we would have won the game,” added Hayrettin.

“They didn’t really have a shot, one or two from about 30 yards, but their goalkeeper did fantastically well.

“We went for it, but the difference was their goalkeeper.”
