Hatters enforced into defensive reshuffle

Town boss Paul Buckle will be forced into at least two changes for Saturday's FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie at Cambridge United.

Buckle will be without the services of recent central defensive partnership in Connor Essam and Simon Ainge for the all-ticket trip to the Abbey Stadium.

On-loan Essam has not been granted permission to play in the competition from parent club Gillingham whilst Ainge has already featured in the FA Cup for Guiseley this season.

It means the boss will have to reshuffle is back-line with Janos Kovacs likely to return to the centre-half but Buckle could also be without fellow defenders Dean Beckwith and Alex Lacey.

Beckwith and Lacey both came off at half-time in Wednesday's development fixture at Charlton with injury and illness respectively.

Meanwhile midfielder Danny Spiller made his first appearance in Town colours in the same match having been beset with an achilles injury since signing in the summer - to the delight of Buckle.

"Spiller came through 20-25 minutes, and he showed some of the touches as to why we brought him to the club," said the manager.

“We’re delighted with that and we’re hopeful of no reaction so he’ll be a stage further.

“If you look at possibly where we’ve been a little bit light this season, it has been in midfield.

“Certainly having him back, albeit in the early stages, is encouraging and I’m delighted for Dan because he and Simon Parsell, our physiotherapist, have worked hard to get the foot right and hopefully now he can kick on.”

Striker Stuart Fleetwood returns from serving a one-match ban whilst Yaser Kasim is also unavailable to feature in the squad under the terms of his loan.
