On the back of a impressive sixth place finish last season, there is hope around Kenilworth Road that Nathan Jones' side can better what they managed last term - as they have done for the last seven successive campaigns.

The Hatters are unbeaten on the opening day in the Championship since returning in 2019, a record they intend to keep when Birmingham head to Bedfordshire.

The opposition:

After a 20th place finish under Lee Bowyer last season, Blues made a managerial change during the summer and appointed former QPR Assistant Manager John Eustace as the new Head Coach.

During his playing career as a midfielder, Eustace recorded more than 400 appearances, starting with a seven-year stint at Coventry City that included loan moves to the Scottish and English top flights with Dundee United and Middlesbrough respectively.

Striker Scott Hogan was their leading goalscorer last season with 10 to his name, including a brace in the fixture at Kenilworth Road, averaging a goal every 239 minutes.

Birmingham have recruited four new faces so far this summer, with goalkeeper John Ruddy joining on a free transfer and Auston Trusty, Przemyslaw Placheta and Dion Sanderson arriving on loan.

Last time we met:

The less said about the head-to-head results with Birmingham last season, the better!

Nathan Jones’ side will be looking for revenge after Blues scored eight goals without reply across the two matches, including a 3-0 away defeat in February which ended an unbeaten run of five games in all competitions.
