Carabao Cup preview | Newport County (H)

Luton Town are in cup action on Tuesday evening as they host Newport County in Round One of the Carabao Cup.

Nathan Jones' side will be looking to progress at least one step further than last year after Stevenage condemned the Hatters to a penalty shoot-out defeat in the first round last season.

Should Tuesday's Carabao Cup Round One tie be level after 90 minutes, the match will be decided by a penalty shoot-out.

The opposition:

After an 11th place finish in League Two last season, Newport have started the campaign with a draw and a loss.

The Exiles will be looking to put defeat against ten-man Walsall behind them and enjoy another cup run like they did in 2019, when victories over Leicester City and Middlesbrough earned them a tie against Manchester City.

Striker Omar Bogle is amongst eight new faces at Rodney Parade this summer and scored for Portsmouth on his last visit to Bedforshire during that memorable night in the snow.

Last time we met:

The two sides last met in League Two back in 2017, and Nathan Jones’ side were 3-1 victors on the day.

Alan Sheehan's free-kick evaded everyone and found the back of the net 12 minutes in, before Danny Hylton netted a brace before half-time with a well-executed back heel from close range and a Panenka chip penalty.
