Our official match preview for Cardiff at home

A Kenilworth Road floodlight

Luton Town are back at Kenilworth Road for the second time this week as we host Cardiff City (Saturday, 12.30pm).

Matt Bloomfield’s Hatters will be hoping to keep the unbeaten home run going after bouncing back with a win against Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night.

Cardiff have made a great start to the season, also winning three of their first four games, conceding just once.

What the managers said

Matt Bloomfield

“Cardiff’s going to be a really stern test to see where we’re at.

“They are a good footballing team with some good young players that have energy and individual ability about them. They have a real identity so it’s going to be a tough game for us.

“We need to let the next 24 hours play out and make sure we know physically that we’ve got a team that is ready to go and run on Saturday, because it’s going to be a tough game.

“That’s really important for us to have the energy and physicality to really take on this challenge.”

Brian Barry-Murphy

“The most important thing for us on Tuesday [at Wimbledon] was to show that we’d improved since [the 0-0 draw at] Port Vale. It’s been referenced at how happy we were to get the result we did at Port Vale, and how keen we were to improve on certain aspects of the performance.

“We showed that in the game on Tuesday. We had an increased level of our performance and we’ll need improve again on Saturday to give ourselves a chance to win again against a team of Luton’s calibre.

“We believe we’re capable of doing that and over the next two days we’re doing a lot of work to respect their strengths and play as well as we can to win the game.”

The opposition

Cardiff have shaken off the disappointment of relegation from the Championship, which started with a second half resurgence on the opening day against Peterborough.

A bore draw at Port Vale on a Thursday night followed before battering Rotherham United by three goals last weekend.

Arguably their most impressive win of the season so far came on Tuesday night when Isaak Davies scored in stoppage time to take all three points at Wimbledon.

Happy Hour

Happy Hour will be between 11am and 12pm with 50 per cent off soft drinks, water and alcohol. Offer valid only during specified Happy Hour times and includes our selection of beers, wines, soft and hot drinks.

This deal is only available from LTFC units and does not include concessions. Must be 18+ to purchase alcohol. Drink responsibly.

Last time we met

Our visit to Cardiff City Stadium in March was an evening to remember as we came from behind to win our first away game of 2025.

Calum Chambers put the hosts in-front straight after half-time before Jordan Clark responded brilliantly with an incredible volley.

Our winner came with ten minutes to go from Thelo Aasgaard who pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area to seal our first away win in almost six months.

Team news

Christ Makosso has served his three-match suspension and will be available for selection.

Bloomfield said in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday that there is still a question mark over Mads Andersen’s tight hamstring that left him out against Wigan in midweek.

Nahki Wells is back on the grass, with Matt being “half-hopeful of having him available”.

It is good news for Reu Walters, Saturday will be too soon but is likely to be available for our game at Burton Albion next weekend.

Last time out

The Hatters bounced back from defeat at Bradford with a win at Kenilworth Road against Wigan on Tuesday, making it three wins from four so far this season.

George Saville found the net from Liam Walsh’s cross within the first ten minutes for his first Luton goal as we held out for a second consecutive clean sheet at home.

Kit colours
