Boss ready for first game in charge

Bloomfield looks ahead to his debut in the Town dugout this weekend

After training finished on Tuesday, Matt Bloomfield made the short drive from The Brache to Kenilworth Road and stood and took it all in.

The Old Girl has not got time on her side with Power Court on the horizon and the Town’s new boss simply wanted to survey his new office ahead of his debut in the dugout against Preston on Saturday.

“It was amazing. I love visiting football grounds and I do like it when they’re empty as well,” Bloomfield said.

“You can take your time, have a walk around and went up to the back of a couple of the stands and sat in a couple of seats

“You could really feel it and sense the spirit of the place. I want to make that place my home as quickly as possible, and I want our supporters to enjoy visiting, and I think it's really important that I really sense the history and the heritage of the football club because the ground’s a special place, and I know it's only here with us a couple more years.”

A whirlwind week has seen Bloomfield take three sessions with the squad after his unveiling on Tuesday morning and Saturday begins the first of three games in a week.

With the Town needing points to climb the Championship table, the new manager is looking forward to putting things into practice at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.

“It's been a busy week. I’ve met so many people who have made me feel very, very welcome, which has been fantastic,” he said.

“We’ve been out on the grass a lot with the boys as much as we possibly can and we’ve been in the meeting room trying to get over as much information as we can.

“It’s been a great first week, I've really enjoyed it and I really hope the outcome of that work comes out on the pitch.

“We want to win but you can't always guarantee that in football. I understand that we want to win, but we want to see some characteristics and elements of the stuff that we've been working on this week come out because, to become a winning team on a regular basis, you have to go through that process of having all elements of the game understood.”
