Lamine Fanne out but Doughty close to return

Midfielder to miss Bloomfield's first game in charge with ankle knock

Matt Bloomfield will be without the services of Lamine Fanne for his first game in charge of the Hatters against Preston on Saturday.

The Spanish midfielder came off early in the second half of last weekend’s FA Cup defeat at Nottingham Forest and will miss North End’s visit with an ankle knock.

Bloomfield does not envisage any players returning from injury for his bow at Kenilworth Road but gave good news on the progress of Alfie Doughty – who could be back playing as soon as next week.

“He’s not far away, he’s really, really close,” said the new Hatters boss. “But he needs to be 100 per cent first. We don’t want to rush him back when he’s not really and then see him fall away.

“We’re being sensible with our decisions like that. He’s a doubt for this weekend but to have him back next week would be great.”

The boss revealed that Shandon Baptiste remains a while away before he is able to return to action as he recovers from a calf problem but Zack Nelson is fit to feature after leaving the field with concussion at the City Ground.

Full press conference to follow.
