End of season loan recap

Read of the successes our players who spent time away from Kenilworth Road enjoyed in 2024/25

With the season now over, for all of our players out on loan, we take a look at how the Luton Town loanees fared in the second half of the campaign.

Jack Walton

In his second season on loan at Dundee United, the 27-year-old goalkeeper has had another impressive campaign following on from last term’s promotion from the Scottish Championship.

The Tangerines qualified for the Europa League with a final day 2-1 home win over Aberdeen on Sunday ensuring a fourth-placed finish, and although Jack was on the bench for that one, he had made 41 appearances for the Tannadice outfit.

Over both campaigns, the Yorkshireman kept 36 clean sheets in 86 appearances north of the border, earning plaudits from fans, pundits and team-mates alike.

Jayden Luker

Teenage midfielder Jayden has spent the majority of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Grimsby, and played a significant role in the Mariners’ bid for a League Two play-off place.

Sadly, they missed out in the play-off for the play-offs on the final day of the season, suffering a 1-0 home defeat to AFC Wimbledon, but that should take nothing away from a breakthrough season in the EFL for Jayden.

After a National League loan at Woking in the second half of 2023/24, the Londoner stepped up a level and made 26 appearances in all competitions at Blundell Park, scoring three times and providing two assists.

Tom Holmes

Tom made his Hatters debut as a substitute in the 0-0 draw at Portsmouth in August before going onto make a further 19 appearances for the Town. A sending off at Coventry in October was followed by a first goal for the club – an equaliser in the 2-1 win over Derby in December.

With a number of the Town’s senior defenders returning from injury, the centre-half departed for a loan spell at Belgium Jupiler League side DCV Dender.

He made his debut as a second-half substitute in a 4-1 defeat at Union St Gilloise in March and then started in a 2-1 reverse at Mechelen two weeks later.

Cauley Woodrow

Our academy graduate made 16 appearances for the Hatters in the first half of the campaign before making a loan move in the winter transfer window to Championship side Blackburn.

He made his debut for Rovers in a 2-0 defeat against Wolves in the FA Cup and went on to play a further eight times as Rovers missed out on a place in the play-offs by two points on the final day of the season.

Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu

Our history-making midfielder made 10 appearances in the Championship for us before joining League One side Rotherham on loan for the remainder of the campaign in February.

The midfielder made 18 appearances for the Millers, starting 11 times in the third tier.

He scored once for the Yorkshire side, the opening goal in a 2-0 win at Northampton (with ex-Hatter Sam Nombe scoring the other) and provided one assist – Mallik Wilks’ goal in a 3-3 draw at Mansfield.

Dion Pereira

For the second season in a row, Dion headed to Dagenham and Redbridge in the National League on a loan which lasted the whole of the 2024/25 campaign.

The 26-year-old enjoyed a terrific start to his spell with the Daggers, scoring 10 times and laying on six assists before the turn of the year.

He scored four times in two games in back-to-back home wins against Sutton (3-0) and Gateshead (7-1) in September as Dagenham flirted with the top seven.

Dion also scored the winner as the Daggers dumped out League Two Crewe out of the FA Cup in November.

However, a spell out of the side through injury meant his 2025 was mixed. He missed 10 matches in the National League and his side suffered, slipping down the table.

Dion returned for the run-in, helping them go on a five-game unbeaten run. But despite a goal and an assist in a 6-1 home win over Altrincham, the Daggers drew their final match at Solihull and were relegated to National League South.

Bim Pepple

Centre-forward Bim had a hugely successful season in front of goal across two spells out on loan away from Kenilworth Road, scoring 15 times in total.

The first half of the campaign saw him hit 10 goals in 21 games for Southend in the National League.

His first goals came when he notched a brace in a 4-2 win at Solihull in September, but the striker began to really find his feet before the turn of the year when scoring seven goals in six games. That included a hat-trick in a 5-3 win over Brentwood in the FA Trophy.

Bim’s form saw him recalled after he scored the winner in a 1-0 win for Southend at Braintree and he was soon on his way up the M1 to League Two side Chesterfield.

His first goals also came when scoring twice, this time in a 5-2 win over Doncaster in February. The striker then scored in three games in a row as the Spireites embarked on a run of form which would take them to the play-offs.

Bim was involved in the end-of-season semi-finals and was a handful in the second leg but sadly for the Spireites, Chesterfield lost to Walsall.

Jameson Horlick

Under-21 goalkeeper Jameson enjoyed three spells out on loan away from Kenilworth Road last season.

Our academy keeper made 13 starts for Isthmian Premier side Dulwich Hamlet in the opening half of the season before returning to Bedfordshire to join Southern Premier Central Bedford in January.

Over the course of his 11 appearances at The Eyrie, Horlick kept four clean sheets to help the Eagles consolidate their position in the promotion race.

In March ‘Jamo’ was recalled and loaned out to National League South side Hemel Hempstead, where he went on to keep two clean sheets in seven appearances after making his debut in a 1-1 draw at home to Aveley.

He also saved a penalty in the goalless draw at Bath at the end of March.

Axel Piesold

Young midfielder Axel had a productive season-long loan with Northern Ireland Premiership side Cliftonville.

He made a total of 35 appearances throughout the campaign, making his debut in a 1-0 win over Portadown in August.

Axel picked up silverware when scooping the Irish League Cup final in March, playing 48 minutes in their 1-0 win over Glentoran.

And although the midfielder narrowly missed out on a cup double when Cliftonville lost the Irish Cup final on penalties to Dungannon Swifts in May, he helped the club reach next season's Europa League.

Jack Bateson

While he also featured four times as captain for our Under-21s in the Premier League Cup, Jack managed 23 appearances for Farnborough in National League South.

He made his debut in a 1-0 win over Worthing in November and continued to be a regular in the Boro defence as they finished 10th in the sixth tier.

His final appearance for Farnborough came in an 8-2 victory at Hampton and Richmond Borough in April.

Oli Lynch

Striker Oli enjoyed two spells out on loan during the last campaign, which began at Dulwich Hamlet in the Isthmian League where he made 15 appearances.

But it was at Hemel Hempstead in the second half of the season where the self-confessed Luton fan flourished, hitting 11 goals in 18 appearances for the Tudors.

Eight of these goals came in 17 games in the sixth tier, including two on his debut in a 4-1 win over Slough and his strike against Farnborough was voted goal of the season.

Oli’s form was rewarded with a new contract at Kenilworth Road before he was recalled by Matt Bloomfield to be in and around the first team squad for the Championship run-in.

We would like to place on record our thanks to all the clubs who looked after our players while out on their loan spells.
