Cameron Jerome said that Luton Town displayed all of their qualities to beat Queens Park Rangers and further extend the league unbeaten run.
The striker watched on as Elijah Adebayo put the Hatters in front with a close range header in the first half, before coming on and scoring a second to create breathing space for the home side.
QPR reduced the deficit in the 90th minute before Luke Freeman scored against his old side to wrap up the three points in front of an adoring home crowd.
“We try and pride ourselves on our home form,” Jerome said when speaking to the press after the match. “Although we haven’t been beaten much at home, we’ve had a couple of frustrating results that have turned into draws and we’ve not managed to win the game.
It was a great sign of character and obviously a good test. QPR are a good footballing side, they’re amongst the top teams at the minute and they’re in form as well. It’s a much-deserved victory, especially first half. I thought if we got the second goal a bit earlier, it would have been a bit more comfortable for us.
“It always is (a team effort). That is what we are and what we’re about. It is well documented from the manager that it’s a squad game, there are no individuals, there is no stand-out star here. It’s a big team effort, week-in, week-out.
“That is what this league is about. You have to be consistent at this level. There are some really good footballing side, there are some really good organised sides and I think we fall in between both.
“We have that bit of quality and we have started to evolve a little bit in terms of being able to play football as well as being able to mix it up and do what we’re strongest at really. That is being aggressive, being on the front foot, athletic, defending the box well and I thought we showed all the qualities today in the game.”
The 36-year-old was one of three game-changers introduced, the others Harry Cornick and Freeman, combined to score the winning goal on the afternoon.
“We had three games last week, we have three games this week, it is about freshening things up. That is the whole point of having the squad, for you to have it at your disposal. The managers instructions were to go and take the game away from QPR and I thought when we did that.
“The boys who came on and the boys who were already on, we did that. Little bit disappointing not keeping the clean sheet but we responded brilliantly by getting the third.”
On a personal note, after missing the last two matches, Jerome is still eager to contribute whenever called upon by the gaffer – Nathan Jones.
“I’m still enjoying it. at this age helping the boys on a day-to-day basis, helping drive the standards and keeping the other boys on their toes. The manager obviously sees me as a part of the squad and he is able to call upon whenever he needs and that is brilliant for me to be involved at this level at this age.
“I feel really good, my body feels good and I’m happy to contribute when I can.”
