The Hatters kick off their 2025/26 cup campaign on Tuesday evening with a short trip up the M1 to take on a familiar face in recent years, with Coventry City our hosts in the Carabao Cup first round.
Town are looking to record a third straight win to kick off the season, with League One victories over AFC Wimbledon and Peterborough United coming without conceding a goal.
For the first time in nine seasons Coventry are a division above the Hatters in the EFL, with their Championship campaign opening on Saturday with a goalless draw at home to Hull City.
Whether it be League Two, One or the second tier, Town have been at the same level as the Sky Blues in six of those previous eight seasons.

What the manager said:
Matt Bloomfield said: "It's going to be a real tough game. Coventry away is not an easy tie or an easy draw at all, so we are going to need energy, we are going to need intensity on the pitch.
"The League Cup has got a rich history at our club, we know that, so we want to go there and show ourselves in the best light.
"There will be changes, because in pre-season we managed to get the majority of the group up to a good level in terms of match sharpness and match fitness, and there have been a few of the guys you could say have been really harshly done by not to play more minutes in the first two league games.
"They will be given their opportunity to stake their claim for a spot.
"We want to go and win the game. I’m not making changes just to protect people, or making changes just to make changes. It’s our best route as a football club to try and get through.
"We’ve now got a busy few weeks coming up. If we can win on Tuesday, that means we’ve got four Tuesdays in a row that we are busy playing. If not, we’ve got three out of the next four anyway, so we need a whole group that’s at it."
The opposition
Managed by Frank Lampard, Coventry kicked off their season with a 0-0 draw with Hull City at the CBS Arena on Saturday.
Last season Lampard led them into the Championship play-offs after taking over in November, but they were beaten in the semi-final over two legs by eventual winners Sunderland.
It was a second appearance in the play-offs in three seasons, with the other coming when the Hatters famously beat them on penalties under Wembley's Arch to secure our promotion to the Premier League.
Speaking ahead of Saturday's campaign opener, Lampard said: "I'm happy to be back, we start again off the back of what was a really positive season for us, with a disappointing ending.
"I always like the challenge of a new season, you must try to improve in every sense because everyone else around you is trying to do the same."
Team news
In his post-match press interviews at the weekend, manager Bloomfield indicated that Mark McGuinness, Zack Nelson and Lamine Fanne would be among the changes he is in line to make at the CBS Arena.
Last time out
The Hatters won 2-0 at Peterborough on Saturday, with Mads Andersen and Jordan Clark on the scoresheet.
The victory made it six points from two games in League One following the opening night's 1-0 home win over AFC Wimbledon, with Town fourth in the early table - one of six teams sitting on a maximum haul.
