Luton Town Ladies return to cup action this Sunday when they host Milton Keynes Women at Barton as they look to bounce back from consecutive defeats.

It was a successful run out in the WNL League Cup last time out for the Hatters, where they swept aside Tottenham Hotspur PGA 4-1 at Barton, courtesy of goals from Shanice Lewis, Amber Leighton, Courtnay Ward-Chambers and a penalty by Shianne Swarres.

The opposition

After relegation from tier-three last season, where they failed to register a single win in the league, Milton Keynes Women have not got off to the best of starts back in tier-four, having lost all three of their league games and their previous League Cup game, losing 5-0 to Oxford United Women.

The Buckinghamshire-based side sit bottom of Group M, having a two-goal inferior difference to Tottenham Hotspur PGA in third place.

The bottom-placed side saw a positive result on their travels last time out, narrowly losing to Chatham Town 3-2.

Group stage explained

In order for the Town to progress to the knockout stages of the League Cup, they’ll either need to win Group M or qualify as one of the 10 best runners-up. Should they fail to do so and finish third, the Hatters will be placed into the WNL Plate knockout stages.

The Hatters are currently second place on goal difference behind Oxford United. The U’s host Tottenham Hotspur PGA on Sunday.

The third and final game of Group M for the Ladies will commence on Sunday 28th September when they travel to the MGroup Stadium to face Oxford United.
