Matt Bloomfield has a strong squad to pick from as the Hatters welcome Middlesbrough to Kenilworth Road looking to escape the bottom three on Saturday.

Following Tuesday night’s 2-1 win at Cardiff – which moved the Town to within two points of safety – the manager will welcome back Kal Naismith to the squad following his red card at Burnley.

The boss will also have Reece Burke available for selection after the defender came on at Cardiff for this first appearance since the end of November.

With Daiki Hashioka also fit, the boss also explained that Teden Mengi and Tahith Chong are also making good progress in their recoveries.

“Teden is on the grass not but not with the group yet, while Chongy is closer,” said Bloomfield. “Both are working incredibly hard and we need to be careful not to rush anyone back too soon.”

For the game against play-off chasing Boro, the Hatters will wait on the fitness of Carlton Morris after the striker picked up a groin issue on Tuesday night in south Wales.

“We’ll make the call on Saturday and we hope he’ll be okay. He’s desperate to play,” added the manager.

“The lads who have been out long-term, we need to manage their schedule. Burkey’s been fine but he’s been out for a long time and he’s been ill. He’s a big player for us, and we’re pleased to have him back.”

Asked at his Friday press conference whether it will be the toughest selection of his tenure so far, Bloomfield said: “There’s definitely competition for places, that’s what we want.

“We have a few choices and we’ll select a team what we think is best for us and one that continues our momentum.”
