Hatters manager Matt Bloomfield has spoken about the togetherness between fans, staff and players that he believes is crucial to the team continuing their positive form going into the final month of the season.
The Town boss was speaking on talkSPORT 2’s ‘EFL All Access’ show on Monday night.
In his interview with Hugh Woozencroft, which you can listen to by clicking HERE (scroll to 19:45), Matt is asked how important man-management is in his job?
He said: “I think man-management is the most important part of my job. The lads are human beings playing football and it’s about the human first and dealing with the person and making sure that they are comfortable and happy and they are ready to play.
“They understand that there needs to be clarity around the game plan, there needs to be an understanding around your shape.
“We spoke earlier on when we came in the building that the lads had not been winning as many games as what they have been working towards this season, conceding more goals than what they would have liked to have done.
“It’s around just trying to get some organisation and structure and an understanding and mutual understanding between ourselves and the players around what they are comfortable with, and what we are comfortable with.
“They have historically been three at the back here for a while. We played four for the first couple of weeks, and felt that three would suit the group better.
“My job here is to be there for the players, to give them an opportunity to play to their fullest potential and to win games. It’s not about making sure a certain formation or shape or organisation is in place.
“It’s about making them feel comfortable, so we changed formation slightly and put players in positions we feel they are best in, and then it was about working towards that clarity of in and out of possession, of what they need and what’s going to make them feel good.
“In being a manager I think the man-management is the most crucial aspect. Obviously the football is very, very important. But it’s about having a group working together, playing together and with our supporters.
“They have been a huge support for us and this football club, they have been incredible over the years, and they’ve not had a huge amount to support – especially away from home – this season.
“We saw on Saturday that they turned up in incredible numbers for a lunchtime kick-off, and just cheered every kick, every block, every header, so it feels like there is a bit of togetherness coming back – and together as a football club, supporters and players and staff, it’s the only way you’re going to achieve anything.”
