The Town Ladies are back in league action this Sunday when they take on Norwich City Women at Carrow Road.
After recording a 2-1 victory over Milton Keynes Women in the League Cup last weekend, the Ladies will be looking to recover from back-to-back heavy defeats in the league and get their first three points on the road this campaign.
The opposition
Founded in 1982, the original Norwich City Women’s side lifted the Women’s FA Cup in 1986 before disbanding just one year later.
They rebranded as the Canary Racers in the early 1990s, where they won four consecutive league titles in the now fifth-tier of women’s football.
The Canaries have competed under the name ‘Norwich City Women’ ever since 2001 and were fully integrated into Norwich City in 2022, having previously been ran by a collective of volunteers.
Last season the eight-time Norfolk County Cup winners fell short of the Women’s National League Division One South East title by two points. Their season concluded with a 3-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers at Carrow Road.
Andy Cook’s side got off to a strong start this time around with an impressive 4-0 triumph over Actonians, before sweeping aside Peterborough United 2-0 in their League Cup opener. The Canaries made it consecutive victories in the league the following weekend, defeating QPR 2-0 in West London.
Fulham were the first side to take points off Norwich, edging them out 4-2 at Craven Cottage. Most recently, they failed to get their revenge on Real Bedford in their second League Cup match, falling to a 2-0 loss against the Pirates.
Back the Town in East Anglia
It will be a tough opponent the Town face this weekend with the hosts backed by over 3,000 of their own at Carrow Road.
The Ladies need your support to be heard in East Anglia as they look to pick up their first three points on the road of the season in what promises to be an exciting day in Norfolk.
The stadium turnstiles open at 12.30pm on the day.
Parking will be available at £5 per car. Follow the satnav to NR1 2EG.
