The Town made a quick start under the lights. Amber Leighton’s lofted ball over the top of the Chesham defence was collected in her stride by Elizabeth Mulvaney, who was unfortunate to slip when attempting her delivery into the area, allowing for the visitors to clear.
At the other end, Chesham were denied the opener. They broke through the Hatters’ backline and found themselves one-on-one, but Nicole Melling made a superb save to her left-hand side to keep the scores level.
Shianne Swarres was dispossessed on the edge of the Luton area, but she made an instant recovery, her perfectly-timed sliding challenge rescued possession for the Town.
With 10 minutes remaining at the end of the first half, the Ladies took the lead. Jánaye Beaufort’s sumptuous ball over the top of the Chesham defence played Tasha Fensome through on goal, who matched the quality of the pass, with a lob from outside the area and into the back of the net.
Fensome found herself in space once more, this time on the left wing, she delivered the ball into the feet of Emily Wilson, who was left head in hands after shooting straight at the Chesham keeper.
The last piece of action of the half was a Chesham corner, which was claimed by the safe hands of Melling, ensuring her side entered the break a goal up.
The Town’s first opportunity of the second half came through Lisa Milliken, her long-range effort was on target, but comfortably held.
Fensome and Wilson linked up once more, with the latter being on the end of the forward’s ball into the area, but this time she fired over the crossbar.
On the hour, Fensome and Beaufort were replaced by Dickens and McLean. And it was an instant impact from Amy McLean. Her close-range attempt was saved, but she was able to scramble the ball over the line on the rebound. A scrappy one, but a vital one, just five minutes after coming off the bench.
Fiona Buttigieg came close to her first of the season. Her free-kick appeared to be dipping underneath the crossbar, but for a crucial fingertip save from the busy Chesham keeper.
In the 87th minute, Amy McLean netted her second goal of the evening, and what a goal it was. Swarres’ trivela pass picked out McLean just outside the area, she took her marker on, cut inside and curled home a sensational finish.
