EFL launch 'Scan To Smile' to beat the January blues

Look out for QR codes to scan at Kenilworth Road today to watch a story from our Community Trust

Scan to Smile

The English Football League (EFL) has launched Scan to Smile, a new feel-good initiative rolling out across EFL stadiums in England and Wales, designed to spread positivity, beat the January blues, and shine a spotlight on the life-changing work delivered by football club charities.

Posters displayed around Kenilworth Road at today's game against Blackpool will invite supporters to scan QR codes, alongside codes on-screen during all live EFL games broadcast on Sky Sports. Each scan unlocks a short, uplifting story from a real person whose life has been positively impacted by the support of the Luton Town Community Trust.

From mental health support and tackling loneliness, to improving physical wellbeing, employability and confidence, Scan to Smile celebrates the powerful role football plays in communities far beyond the pitch.

At a time when January can be challenging for many, the initiative uses the reach and influence of football to offer fans a moment of positivity on match day – while highlighting the significant social impact made by EFL clubs across the country every single day.

Trevor Birch, Chief Executive at the EFL said: “Scan to Smile is about harnessing the power of football to lift spirits and share real stories of hope. Behind every club are people whose lives have been positively changed through the work and dedication of their local EFL club charity. This initiative gives supporters the chance to see that impact first hand, and reminds us that football truly is a force for good.”

Why it matters

Every season, EFL Clubs engage over one million people and generate more than £1 billion in social value. Behind those numbers are real people, real challenges, and real change and Scan to Smile gives you the chance to see that impact first-hand.
