Clark: "We can't thank fans enough"

Clicker calls for "full Kenny experience" for Boro clash

Jordan Clark is congratulated on his equalising goal at Cardiff by Thelo Aasgaard, Liam Walsh and Christ Makosso.

Jordan Clark thanked the travelling supporters for their continued backing during a season of struggle on the road – and called for the “full Kenny experience” to be on show when Middlesbrough come to Town on Saturday.

Our midfielder hit a stunning 57th-minute volley to cancel out Calum Chambers’ opening goal at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday night, before Thelo Aasgaard fired home the winner ten minutes from time.

The goal was Clicker’s fifth strike of the season, and helped earn a first away win since September.

Speaking to LTFC+ after the game, the 31-year-old said: “If Cardiff had beaten us we would have bene eight points behind them. We aren’t silly. That’s a massive gap and we would have kept fighting until the end, but we knew how much of a big one that would have been.

“So to get back to within two points of a rival who is above us, it’s massive and just gives us that confidence again, especially with a win on the road, which is massive.

“I’m buzzing for the fans, and it takes us into Saturday nicely now, before the break which if we can get another win and get out of the relegation zone.”

On those travelling supporters, he added: “It’s been a long season, and there’s been a lot of disappointment after games. To be fair, nine times out of ten they clap us off. We know how good the fans are.

“In the five years I’ve been here, they’re top, top class, and I can’t thank them enough for their support this year.

“We are going to need it from now until the end of the season, and it’s just nice for a long journey away from Luton, to give them something to smile about on the way home.”

Looking ahead to the visit of Boro to Kenilworth Road, the 31-year-old wants the old girl to be rocking like he has experienced on so many previous occasions since signing from Accrington Stanley in the summer of 2020.

“There is no point in winning tonight if you don’t back it up, especially when we’re in the position we’re in,” he said. “We know the Kenny and we know what it is, and opposition teams know what it is, but it’s up to us to give teams the full Kenny experience.

“It’s Middlesbrough on Saturday and we know it’ll be a tough game, because they are up there in the table. But before the international break it’s vital we get another three points and we’ve been building.

“The gaffer has spoken about it a lot, you can feel it, and we do all the stats every day in the meetings, and apart from the results, we know we’ve been building something. It’s just nice to see it pay off and to get the two wins.

“The Burnley defeat has gone now, because tonight is the freshest game, and we are just looking forward to the weekend now. Tonight doesn’t count for anything if we don’t back it up at the weekend.”

On his goal of the season contender, he reflected: “It was just one of those, when it bounces up and you think ‘Why not?’ And to see it hit the back of the net was just a big relief, then just pure emotion.

“I saw Tim Krul on the sideline going ‘Get back, get back, we’re going to win’. And to be fair, he was right. We knew how much of a big game it was and that a point wouldn’t have been enough.

“I’m buzzing for Thelo as well to get the winner, because he’s been great. Hopefully that will kick him on even more and give him that bit more confidence now.”
