Hatters wideman discusses difficult days at the Kenny as a Boro player

Izzy Jones and Daiki Hashioka on the attack for the Hatters in front of a packed Main Stand Enclosure against Preston.

Ahead of Saturday’s visit of his former club Middlesbrough, Hatters wideman Izzy Jones sat down with LTFC+ to answer fans’ questions posed on Instagram.

You can watch all of his answers in this video, but it is clear that the 25-year-old January signing will be glad to have the 10,000-plus Hatters behind him when the Teesside outfit come to Kenilworth Road.

Izzy played at the Kenny twice for Boro, and finished up on the losing side on both occasions – Sonny Bradley, Elijah Adebayo and Harry Cornick on target for Town in a 3-1 win in November 2021, before Tom Lockyer and Carlton Morris netted in a 2-1 victory in April 2023 with both sides already guaranteed play-off places.

Answering one of our questions, ‘what is it like playing as an opposition player at the Kenny?’ Izzy replied: “Tough, very tough. As everyone knows, it’s a narrow pitch so when you’re playing, you feel like the crowd is on top of you.

“As an opposition player it was very tough and I never really got a result there as an opposition player, so I’d say it’s a very tough stadium to go to when they crowd’s got going and the team are playing well.”

Asked what his favourite thing is about being a Luton player during his short spell in Bedfordshire so far, he said: “The fans, and the club as one. We are one big family and you really feel that in the dressing room from top to bottom. Long may it continue and I just enjoy playing at the Kenny as well.”

He describes the mood in the camp at the moment as “Positive – [we’ve had a] couple of good results recently, so very positive and hopefully we can take the performance and the win into Saturday’s game”.

Finally, on who the most inspiration speaker is in the squad, he says: “Carlton. He shows good leadership on and off the pitch, the way he speaks and the way he conducts himself. When he wants us to go to war, we all go to war.”
