We're going to need the fans again on Saturday - Rob

Boss Rob Edwards has urged Hatters fans to continue their fervent backing of the team when Aston Villa visit Kenilworth Road on Saturday evening.

Edwards has sited the atmosphere generated at Anfield last week – which saw Liverpool roar back to over-turn the Town’s 1-0 half-time lead – as the perfect example of how a crowd can play their part.

“If ever there was a game to highlight the importance of supporters encouraging their team, that was it,” said the boss.

“Our fans have shown their passionate and loyal backing of us throughout this season – through good times and bad – so I ask them to keep it up.

“The players have spoken about how much they feed off the atmosphere and you only have to look at the noise levels generated at Kenilworth Road this season to see why.

“Our fans have been brilliant and we’re going to need them again on Saturday.”

While injury-hit Town face a stern challenge against a Villa side chasing a Champions League spot, Edwards is hoping the Hatters can learn from their midweek defeat to Manchester City.

“We made mistakes but, in a weird way, they were as a result of us being too brave and showing too much respect,” said the manager.

“Some were perhaps too keen to do their jobs. So there were a few bits wrong, but we were up against a top team. I’ve watched the game back and there was a lot of good things to be encouraged about.”

With the Hatters four points from safety with 13 games to go, Edwards knows the significance of this and every single one of those in the Town’s fight for survival.

“Every single one is of utmost importance,” he said. “We got some tough ones coming up, but every game is different and all come with different challenges.

“It’s not a must win but we know that eventually those matches will come. We’re in the mix and we’ve done brilliantly so it’s important it stays that way.”
