Pre-match | Rob: Let's put things right

After back-to-back 5-1 defeats the Town head to Molineux on Saturday with Rob Edwards keen on his side to put things right.

Despite the disappointments, the Hatters know three points at Wolves would lift them out of the Premier League relegation zone, but Edwards is focusing on ensuring his team return to the principles that have stood his team so well this season.

“Having come through the games against Spurs and Arsenal and then Man City after the Bournemouth game, there was too much of the final five games and that we ‘had to win’ and last week was the first time this season we struggled to cope,” said Edwards.

“But we’ve gone through the Brentford performance. Wins will come when we’ve produced a performance in which we’ve shown our principles. We can’t control what other teams do but we can control what we do, and that will always give us the best chance of getting points.

“It was one game – one in 34. We’ve lost this season and played well and been close but last week was the first time we were knocked down and couldn’t get up. Mentally it affected us, we were rocked by it – it affected our running, our passing, our duels.

“It was a reminder. We know if we don’t play well we’re not going to win. There have been lots of occasions in which we’ve played well and lost but performance is the biggest focus.”

And the boss, who will be without Issa Kaboré for the trip to the West Midlands, says he’s seen plenty of positives since the team returned to the Brache on Monday.

“This week has seen a good reaction,” said Rob. “The boys have trained well. The Brentford defeat was just frustrating in that it happened at this stage of the season. But it happens and we’ve just got to get on with it.

“We watched back the video – it wasn’t a video nasty or X-rated.

“But couldn’t allow it to fester or hurt for too long. We’ve lost a game, and of course it’s serious, but at the same time we can’t allow it to hurt us any more, or to knock confidence and belief or cause disruption in the group.

“We won’t allow that. We’ll learn from it. We put it to bed early on Monday, there’s been good focus from the group.

“We’ve said the players have got credit in the bank – because they’ve been amazing for me this season – but we know standards dropped and we know we need a reaction on Saturday.”
