Watford Update | How the Oak Road closure affects home supporters

31 March 2023

We would like to give our supporters advance warning of the impact that the closure of Oak Road for the arrival and exit of Watford fans’ coaches will have on your normal routine this Saturday.

Watford supporters attending the derby at Kenilworth Road will be arriving on coaches having had to collect their tickets and board their transport at Vicarage Road.

There will be a police cordon at the top and bottom of Oak Road, meaning that Beech Path (between the intersections with Ash Road and Beech Road only) will also be closed to Luton Town supporters who would usually use that route to reach the Kenilworth Road end of the ground.

As a result, we strongly urge Hatters fans who sit in the Kenilworth Road or David Preece Stands and usually park in Beech Hill Primary School, the Farley Hill and Dallow Road areas, and those who use the Busway stop on Clifton Road, to please allow extra time to seek an alternative route around the stadium or a different parking location (see below for FREE Power Court offer).

Please be prepared that could involve walking down Ash Road to join Dunstable Road, then along the high street to reach Beech Road, where you will be able to walk up and access Beech Path, or keep going to Kenilworth Road and up to the stadium.

Supporters sitting in the Main Stand, Main Stand Enclosure or home Oak Road are unaffected by these closures and are able to use their usual routes and entrances on the Maple Road bridge.

Map showing Oak Road and Beech Path closures with alternative walking routes for Watford match

Anyone who would usually travel up on the busway from the town centre may wish to walk directly to the Kenilworth Road side of the stadium, if they have tickets for the Kenilworth Road or David Preece stands, rather than take that alternative route.

Similarly, passengers coming from the direction of Dunstable may wish to stay on the bus all the way to the Town Centre, then walk to the Kenilworth Road side of the stadium from there.

The Clifton Road busway stop will be open as usual.

Please be mindful of the fact that police will be managing traffic to allow for the visiting coaches to continue their journey to Oak Road, so driving in and around Bury Park may take longer than would usually be the case.

After the match, the Oak Road and Beech Path closures will remain in place until all of the Watford supporters coached have departed.

The Bobbers Club will be closed for this fixture until Oak Road is reopened.

Together with Bedfordshire Police we apologise for any inconvenience caused to our supporters’ usual matchday routine, but Luton Town Football Club are committed to ensuring a safe matchday experience for all spectators and thank you for your understanding.

*Car parking for supporters at Power Court A will be FREE OF CHARGE of charge from 10am-4pm this Saturday with a print-at-home permit on your dashboard.

On a normal Saturday matchday this costs £1.40, but to qualify for FREE parking on this occasion you must complete the form by clicking HERE.
