Allan Campbell | "It’s another three points and that’s all that matters"

Midfielder Allan Campbell was delighted to be back in the Luton Town starting line-up – and back to winning ways with the 1-0 victory over Swansea at Kenilworth Road yesterday.

The Scot had watched the majority of the last five games from the bench, including the 2-2 draw with Millwall on Tuesday night.

Speaking after playing another key role in victory over Swansea, having scored in the 2-0 win in South Wales earlier in the season, Campbell said: “The win was the main thing today. I think after the midweek performance, and coming out with a draw, the main thing today was to get back to winning ways and get the three points to keep us pushing up that table.

“We knew what to expect, and tried to press them high. They try to take a lot of chances and keep the ball, playing it from the back, and they are good at it to be fair. If we didn’t turn up then they would pick us off, but thankfully we ground out the result. It wasn’t pretty, but at the end of the day it’s another three points and that’s all that matters.”

It was the 24-year-old’s 31st starting appearance of the season, but first in the Championship for a month.

“That’s part and parcel of football sometimes,” said the Scotland international. “The boys that have been playing have been doing brilliantly, and it’s frustrating for myself, but it’s football. You have to wait for your turn and I’m back in today and helped the team out to get the win, so I’m happy.”

Asked about the feeling in the dressing room, he replied: “Excitement. I feel that we are building well from last year. There are a lot of players there disappointed with the way it ended last year, so we are just using that to go again this year, and hopefully by the end of the season we are laughing instead of crying.

“We just need to keep taking each game as it comes and striving to get to that next level.”
