Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu was pleased to play his part in a defensive shutout and guide Luton Town back to winning ways against Birmingham City.
The midfielder wore the captain’s armband for the second time as a Luton player, maintaining his 100 per cent record after last season’s victory over Coventry City, and followed suit with a gutsy display to lead the Hatters to three points.
Following an injury to Reece Burke, Mpanzu was even forced to become back of the back five but hopes he doesn’t have to return there anytime soon…
“It’s boring, I want to get forward!” Pelly replied. “Joking aside, if I need to do a job there, I will do a job there, it’s no qualms for me. The main thing is that it was a good team performance and the three points is what we needed.”
Assessing the team performance, Mpanzu said to BBC Three Counties Radio, “We wanted to get to winning ways, we have put in three good performances and think we should have got more points but it is good to come here and get three points to back up what we’ve been trying to do all season.
“It has been a bit sticky at St Andrew’s I cant lie but it was nice for us to get a win. Obviously the travelling fans are always great so I’m glad that they’re going home with three points today.”
But the number 17 will not be resting on his laurels with focus immediately turning to a play-off clash against Millwall in midweek.
“All the games are big but because we’re right on the same points whoever wins climbs up the table. It’s a massive game, we have to recover, make sure we put our all in and make it a Kenilworth Road experience on Tuesday night.”
