A three-time European top-flight title winner who won Player of the Year in his first season in England has signed for the Hatters.

His name is Thomas Kaminski and the experienced goalkeeper has joined for an undisclosed fee from Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

The 30-year-old Belgian arrives in time to travel to Germany for this weekend’s friendly with Bochum and becomes the seventh new arrival at Kenilworth Road this summer.

A happy Town boss Rob Edwards said: "It’s an area which is one of, if not the, most important areas on the pitch and a lot of work has been done to get the deal, and that goalkeeper position, over the line.

"He’s a great person and he’s a really good proactive goalkeeper, which at this level you’re going to need. He’s sharp, he makes good saves and is alert in one-on-ones situations.

"Thomas not only brings us a really proactive level of goalkeeping but also he’s an international footballer with Belgium so he brings that level of experience too."

Our new goalkeeper Kaminski explained: "I’m delighted to be here and looking forward to the opportunity.

"The Premier League is the best league in the world, to play in the Premier League is a dream for every footballer and it’s unbelievable to be here.

"Knowing Luton’s story and playing against them, it’s a well organised team. You can see the togetherness on the pitch, I’ve spoke many times to Amari’i Bell who was my teammate at Blackburn and he called it home, so it gave me a great feeling about the club."

Kaminski: the story so far

Thomas’ career began in the youth ranks at Gent in his native Belgium, but his first taste of first team football came with Germinal Beerschot in the top flight, making 38 appearances before one season at OH Leuven in 2011/12.

In 2012 the goalkeeper joined Belgian giants Anderlecht, but loan moves to Cyprus and then to FC Copenhagen followed, with the latter switch saw him part of the squad that won the Danish league and cup double in 2015/16.

With Anderlecht he was part of the Purples and White squad that won two Belgian league titles, in 2013 and 2014, and three Super Cups in a row between 2012 and 2014 – and he also made his debut in the Champions League in 2013/14.

With first team opportunities at Anderlecht limited, Kaminski joined Kortrijk where he was a regular between the sticks for three seasons before he secured a moving back to Gent.

Thomas enjoyed two seasons with Gent, finishing runners-up to champions Club Brugge in 2019/20 – a season in which he featured in their Europa League campaign where they reached the knockout stages.

Those performance did not go unnoticed by scouts in the UK, and in 2020 Kaminski arrived at Ewood Park where he quickly became a fans’ favourite and was named Player of the Year at the end of his debut season as Rovers finished 15th.

The following two seasons saw Thomas help Blackburn to seventh and eighth places, twice narrowly missing out on the play-offs.

While he has yet to make a senior cap for Belgium, Kaminski has a wealth of international experience, having been part of the Belgium senior squad on several occasions, including at EURO 2020.

We are delighted to have you on board, Thomas, welcome to Kenilworth Road!
