As Sunday’s crunch match between Luton Town and Queens Park Rangers approaches, with the sides battling it out for position in the Championship play-off race, the focus of the world remains quite rightly on the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
Town and QPR have a history of being united for compassionate causes, not least earlier this season when members of both clubs’ staff took part in a Prostate United run around the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium pitch in support of Mick Harford and Prostate Cancer UK.
As football clubs embedded in their local communities, the Hatters and Hoops will put on-pitch rivalries aside to once more stand together at Kenilworth Road, this time in solidarity with those people who are currently suffering so much in Ukraine, and countries to which they have fled as refugees.
The Luton Town Community Trust and QPR in the Community Trust have this week visited the Luton and Holland Park branches of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain, who will both be represented at Sunday’s game.

Orchestrated by the Community Trusts and the two branches of the AUGB, there will also be collection points for donations of essential items listed below on Kenilworth Road for home supporters, and on Oak Road for the visiting Rangers fans.
Many caught up in the war have nothing and have been injured in the fighting. We have all seen heart-breaking images of people trying to flee the country, and those who have chosen to remain, not wanting to leave their homes.
They are in desperate need of:

5) Sleeping bags
6) Pain killers
7) Tea
8) Coffee (No glass containers)
9) Tinned or packet goods, dry soups
10) Toothbrushes
11) Toothpaste
12) Children’s Nappies
13) Adult Nappies (to be used as large wound dressings)
14) Warm clothing, socks, hats etc
