Luton Town will kick-off the 2022-23 Sky Bet Championship season with a home match against Birmingham City on Saturday 30th July - with the eagerly-awaited first derbies with fans in attendance for 16 years set for 22nd October at Vicarage Road, and 1st April at Kenilworth Road!

A lot of football is to be played before those Watford matches, however, with the Hatters’ first away day of the new campaign coming at another recently-relegated side, with Burnley – now managed by Manchester City and Belgium legend Vincent Kompany – hosting at Turf Moor on Saturday 6th August.

After a midweek Carabao Cup first round tie, which we will find out about with the draw at 2:30pm today, Preston North End are the next visitors to the Kenny on Saturday 13th August.

Town enjoyed a 4-0 home win over North End last term, so will be looking for a repeat of that before a triple trek to the south-west starts with a visit to Bristol City on Tuesday 16th August, before a quick return journey down the M4 to Swansea City on Saturday 20th.

Both of those fixtures brought good results in 2021-22, a late Danny Hylton equaliser bringing a much-deserved point back from Ashton Gate before Harry Cornick’s second-half winner earned all three at the Liberty Stadium last February.

We then host fellow beaten play-off semi-finalists Sheffield United at Kenilworth Road on Saturday 27th August, before the third leg of the journey south-west comes with a return to south Wales to play Cardiff City on Tuesday 30th August. Cornick netted the only goal there last term, too!

The eagerly-awaited first derby against Watford with fans in attendance for 16 years comes at Vicarage Road on Saturday 22nd October, with the return at home coming on Saturday 1st April – just under two years since James Collins netted that brilliant first-touch penalty to seal a 1-0 win in the behind-closed doors fixture of 2020-21.

This season is interrupted by the World Cup in Qatar with a break in fixtures between Rotherham at home on Saturday 12th November and a trek up to Middlesbrough on Saturday 10th December, before Millwall visit Kenilworth Road on the 17th.

The festive programme brings a home Boxing Day date with another recently-relegated side, Norwich City, who were beaten on their last two visits to the Kenny in 2020-21 – first in the Carabao Cup and the second memorably with 1,000 fans allowed back into the stadium for the first time during the BCD campaign.

Away games follow at QPR on Thursday 29th December and Huddersfield Town, the side who narrowly overcame the Town in the play-offs, on New Year’s Day.

The regular league season will end with a home game, as Hull City are the visitors on Saturday 6th May after a final away day at Blackburn the week before.

Please note that at present this is a draft fixture list and all dates are subject to change.
