Allan Campbell was ‘delighted’ to score his first Luton goal in yesterday’s 3-2 win against promotion hopefuls AFC Bournemouth.

On his 11th league appearance for the club, he got off and running with a brilliant strike from distance and was pleased to do so especially in front of his dad in the stands.

“I’ve been trying my best to get on the scoresheet but it just fell in my path brilliantly. I hit a shot in the bottom corner and I was delighted, my dad was down as well so it was a good time to score.

“When I got the ball I could hear them screaming for me to pass and I was just waiting for the right time but I’d seen the chance to shoot and I just thought I’m going to hit it. Thankfully it went in! I hit it so sweet, I’m delighted with it and I’m delighted the team got the win!”

The Hatters have taken four points off Fulham and Bournemouth in their last two matches and Campbell credited the never say die attitude in the team after doing so.

“I think the main thing for us was to press them, get in their faces, make it difficult for them and then show our quality. I think we did that brilliantly in the first half. Obviously in the second half they came out and caused us a bit of problems but then Kal came up with the last-minute goal, it was great scenes and that is what football is all about. it’s what you love about football, scoring goals and the excitement and buzz around the place, it was brilliant.

“We have that never say die attitude in the team. I think the manager drives it on the training pitch always pushing for more and the crowd pushing here. It showed in the last 15/20 minutes of the game, there was only one team that looked likely to go on and win it, thankfully it was us.”

The Scotsman’s afternoon ended prematurely and will be assessed ahead of the Reading and Sheffield United matches next week.

“I didn’t want to come off the park I was loving it out there. Just need to be careful, manage it and hopefully it is nothing serious.

“I just felt my hamstring was a bit tight, I think I just need to see how the next 24 hours go but hopefully it is nothing too serious and I can manage it and be fine for next week.”
