Admiral Muskwe scored a brace in the Development Squad's 2-0 win against Reading Under 23s at Kenilworth Road this afternoon.

The Zimbabwe international scored a goal either side of the break and was one of eight senior players to feature in the behind closed doors friendly.

Tom Lockyer led the side against the Royals, whilst trialist Max Haygarth played the full 90 minutes alongside Development regulars Casey Pettit and Josh Williams.

It was almost the perfect start for Paul Hart’s side as the aforementioned Williams crossed low for Dion Pereira, and his flicked, first-time effort was tipped over by the Reading keeper.

An even better chance occurred 20 minutes later when Admiral Muskwe rounded the goalkeeper and pulled the ball back to Carlos Mendes Gomes in the area, but his shot was cleared away by an opposition defender.

The Development Squad continued to push forward and Pereira was twice unlikely not to force the opener.

First he combined well with summer signing Louie Watson and fired a low shot towards goal, before heading over a pin-point Mendes Gomes cross.

But the opener would come in the 38th minute through his strike partner for the afternoon, as Muskwe fired home from a tight angle inside the area.

Just two minutes into the second half Muskwe scored his second goal of the match after Pereira played a neat pass through the Reading defence for the striker to latch onto and finish calmly.

Casey Pettit who looked confident at centre-back alongside Tom Lockyer played a well-timed through ball towards Mendes Gomes and the Spaniard attempted to chip the keeper, but he stood tall to fought the effort.

Harry Isted was forced into action for the first time in the 67th minute after being untested throughout the contest, and he was at his very best to produce a flying save from a Reading free-kick.

After being harshly penalised for a foul in the area, Isted recovered well and made a low save from the penalty spot to keep his clean-sheet intact.

The game was unfortunately halted prematurely due to a serious-looking injury to an opposition player, who was assisted by team medics and ambulance staff at Kenilworth Road.
