Harry Cornick played a starring role in Wednesday's thrashing against Coventry City, admitted he knew full well a result as big as that was coming!

The number seven produced arguably one of his best performances in a Luton shirt, contributing two goals and two assists on an evening where the Hatters were simply too hot to handle.

“It has been coming,” Cornick admitted post-match. “We have put in some really good performances recently and it is nice to see it all come together and get a result I think we deserved today.

“Off the back of a tough game against Bournemouth where we thought we deserved a point at least and then obviously the result against Swansea which was really deflating to be honest because we were in the same position today, three-nil and then four-nil at half-time. Going into half-time we thought ‘not again’ so we made sure we got it right today and finished the job well.”

After scoring his third and fourth goal of the season, the forward was disappointed to be subbed off before getting the opportunity to secure his hat-trick, but was more relieved when the same happened with Elijah Adebayo!

“I was gutted when my number came up, I wanted to go and get my hat-trick and then I’ll come off. I was looking thinking if he [Adebayo] doesn’t come off as well then I will be raging! If he has left him on for the hat-trick and not me I would have been raging! Both got taken off and now we rest up for Saturday.”

Attention immediately turns to the weekend where the Hatters will look to make it two wins from two at home against a Huddersfield side who have made a good start to the season.

After turning performance into result, Cornick is well aware that the players will need to be at their best to do just that once again.

“It is a crazy league, we think we should be higher than we are, I think we are a top six side, the gaffer thinks we are a top six side, I think most of the boys at the club do and it is about putting in the performances and getting the results we deserve. I don’t think we’ve had the results we’ve deserved recently so today it is nice to see the performance and the result come together.

“Every game is a tough game. Playing against Huddersfield they have started the season really well, it will be a tough game but hopefully we can do the same again Saturday.”
