New signing Amari’i Bell’s Concaf Gold Cup campaign came to an end last night as a late goal from the USA sent Jamaica out at the quarter-final stage.

The full-back, who joined the Hatters after leaving Blackburn Rovers in the summer, enjoyed a productive campaign, helping the Reggae Boyz to a second placed finish in Group C after winning two of their three group games.

Bell played the full ninety minutes in his team’s opening group win against Suriname, before scoring an unfortunate early own goal against Guadelope, with his side battling back to seal all three points after a late winner from Junior Flemmings.

Jamaica fell to a 1-0 defeat to Costa Rica in their final group game, with Bell coming on as a second-half substitute, setting up a quarter-final tie with hosts USA that Bell didn’t feature in as Matthew Hoppe’s late winner sent Jamaica out of the competition.

Commiserations Amari’i!
