Defender James Bree was disappointed the Hatters weren’t able to capitalise on their second half superiority as they fell to defeat against Brentford last night.
The Bees were on top during the early stages and forged ahead through Saman Ghoddos, but Town fought back and produced a performance that on another day, would have merited a positive result.
The former Aston Villa youngster reflected exactly those thoughts after the match and said: “We’re all gutted in there tonight. First half we were a little bit sloppy and their goal was too easy, we shouldn’t have let that in.
“But second half, we had chance after chance and I think if we take one of those, we could have nicked three points out of the game the way we were on top. Like I said that is the way football goes sometimes, we move on to the next one.”
“I don’t know why we keep starting slow,” the right-back admitted. “It is something we talked about before the game, start fast and get on top away from home.
“Slow the game down if we have to but we’re struggling to do that at the minute for whatever reason.
“Second half we come out and always play really well and I think if we could play the whole game like we did for the second half, we will beat a lot of teams in this league.”
On a personal level, Bree is fighting fit and started his fourth game in succession after injuries had plagued the early part of his season.
“It has been a really frustrating year so far for myself. I really wanted to come in and hit the ground running after the end of last year, but it has just not gone that way for me. I’m excited for the next six months just to play consistently.
“I had the injury at the start of the season which I got against Derby and then rehabbed from that. I came back and felt absolutely fine, but it is a niggly one really. I’ve half sorted it out, it is still a little bit sore but I’m getting through it.”
And looking ahead to the weekend’s FA Cup fourth round action against Chelsea, Bree is looking to relish the opportunity, if selected to play at Stamford Bridge.
“It is a huge game, it would be great to play in. If I get to play I would like to test myself against those players and hopefully we can get through to the next round.
“Obviously we will look to go there and progress. They have got a good squad of players and some real qualities in there, but like I said, it is one of those for us to go and enjoy ourselves and try our best.”
